A man has appeared in crown court charged with murdering a father of four.
Carlo Dawes is accused of killing Graham Pethard, 37, at a flat in Taunton Road, Brighton, on Saturday morning.
Mr Pethard, from Liverpool, suffered serious injuries which police believe were caused by a six-inch kitchen knife.
Paramedics were called to the property at 5.20am but were unable to save his life and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dawes, 34, of Taunton Road, Brighton, appeared at Lewes Crown Court today where he was remanded in custody.
He will next appear at the same court, when he is expected to enter a plea, on July 4.
