Trains through Gatwick are severely delayed after a vehicle struck a bridge near the airport.

Services on the Brighton mainline are being disrupted between Gatwick Airport and East Croydon due to a vehicle striking a railway bridge in the Salfords area. Emergency engineering work in the Earlswood area is compounding the problem.

A Network Rail spokesman said a car had struck a bridge on Honeycrock Lane in Salfords, Surrey, but that little damage had been done. He said workmen were still inspecting the track for problems.

Short notice alterations, cancellations and delays of up to 60 minutes can be expected.

A Southern Rail spokesman said Southern passengers may use MetroBus services.

First Capital Connect passengers may use Southern services on reasonable routes.
