It is now just weeks until the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is celebrated across Sussex – and The Argus is calling on our young readers to get involved.

Today we are launching a campaign called ‘Our Queen’ as we gear up for the extended bank holiday weekend from June 2-5.

There are already a range of events being organised across the county, including street parties and community gatherings.

We are calling on youngsters to join in the celebrations by drawing a picture of the Queen to mark her amazing milestone.

Argus readers aged 16 and under can get involved with the aim of collecting as many pictures of the Queen as possible to send to Buckingham Palace. Schools, nurseries, clubs and organisations are urged to get involved.

Or it could be that parents or grandparents decide to set their little ones the challenge one weekend.

Every picture that we receive will be featured in The Argus, Readers will then have the chance to vote for their ultimate winner which will be printed in The Argus and featured on a memorial mug which will be available to buy throughout Sussex.

Pictures can be sent to us in a range of ways, but please remember that pencil will appear faint when reproduced in the paper whereas felt tip, crayon and paint will show up well.

All Our Queen pictures should be on a plain white, A4, portrait sheet of paper. On the back of every drawing please place the artist’s first name, age, school and teacher or parent’s phone number and email address.

Only the child’s first name and age will be printed along with the picture in The Argus.

Please submit all pictures to: Our Queen Picture Competition, Marketing Department, The Argus, Argus House, Crowhurst Road, Hollingbury, Brighton, BN1 8AR.

The closing date for all Our Queen drawings is Monday, May 14 with every picture appearing in The Argus on Wednesday May 23.

Tell us how you plan to get involved by calling Rebecca Evans on 01273 544511, emailing rebecca.evans@ theargus.co.uk or leaving a comment below.
