Match-day train travel will be top of the agenda when Albion and rail bosses meet next month.
Brighton and Hove Albion’s planned 8,000-seat expansion of the American Express Community Stadium could see thousands more fans using trains to reach the stadium at Falmer.
Network Rail said it was looking at ways of improving capacity at the station, which sees queues of fans after home matches.
Part of the discussion will centre on who will pay for any improvements.
A Network Rail spokesman said: “We are aware of the challenges posed by extra demand on match days and have some options for potential improvements which could be made.
“We have a meeting planned in January with Southern and Brighton and Hove Albion to discuss these in more detail, including how they could be funded.”
Albion bosses are hoping to introduce the extra seating during next year’s summer break and have submitted a planning application.
The news of the meeting comes after a group campaigning for a second Brighton to London rail line said the stadium’s expansion matched their own ambitions.
Brighton Main Line 2 Project (BML2), run by the Wealden Line Campaign, said a new line would mean fans would not have to change to reach Falmer but could connect directly from London.
The campaign is supported by Labour peer and Albion fan Steve Bassam.
Lord Bassam is meeting Kemptown MP Simon Kirby to discuss ways of taking support forward.
However, Network Rail said the new line was not under consideration.
