Thousands of people got into the spirit of Bonfire Night in Lewes on Saturday.

The annual Lewes Bonfire was as popular as ever with about 60,000 people attending the event.

Bonfire societies across Lewes including Cliffe, Southover, Commercial Square, Borough, South Street and Waterloo took part with an impressive procession passing through the town.

Smaller societies from across the county also attended.

There were people from Balcombe, Rye, Horsted Keynes, Firle and many others.

Bands played fantastic music.

People were forced to cover their ears as from 3pm until into the early hours bangers went off.

Revellers, some wearing masks, others wielding burning crosses and flaming torches walked along the streets.

They were followed by others pushing wheelbarrows full of burning wood.

Selected comments, photographs and videos of Lewes Bonfire Night from members of the public can be seen on The Argus' Storify of the evening's events.
