Poppy Appeal organisers have reassured people there are plenty of places to make a donation.

Hove resident Tommy Coyne, of Seafield Road, said he was becoming concerned at the lack of places to buy poppies and said between Palmeira Square, Hove, and Norfolk Square, on the Brighton and Hove border, very few places offered poppies for sale.

He said: “With every year that has passed since I first arrived in Brighton 11 years ago, the opportunity to purchase a poppy in this city has sadly declined.

“I first came here as a pub licensee: every pub seemed to have poppies for sale, as did most shops.

“Nowadays you would be hard pressed to find anybody selling them."

But Roger Robinson-Brown, from Hove Poppy Appeal, said organisers had distributed Poppies and collection boxes to plenty of shops and restaurants along Western Road on Friday.

He said deliveries were made to the post office, Fresh, Associates, Hove Kitchen, Freemasons, Bow St Runner, the Wick Inn, Paris House, Mulberry, Western News, Sainsbury’s Local, Tesco Metro, Londis, Wine Barrel, Hartleys and St John’s Day Centre.

When The Argus walked along Western Road, Hove, we found poppies on sale at the locations marked on the map below.
