BRISTOL boy Mike Crawshaw is heading home for the first time since his harmony group’s album went platinum.

Mike is one fifth of Good Ol’ Fashioned vocal group The Overtones, who have seen worldwide success fall at their feet in a matter of months.

But, Mike tells the Gazette, they had to work hard for it.

"We went through the mill before we were signed," says Mike, originally from Bedminster.

"But it an absolute dream come true. I am working with my four best friends and am getting paid to do what is effectively my hobby.

"It’s a win, win situation."

Since releasing their debut album, Good Ol Fashioned Love, in November last year and appearing as the house band on ITV’s Dancing on Ice, The Overtones have built up a loyal fan base of those who love the boys’ modern take on classic barbershop numbers as well as audiences who can’t get enough of their unique covers of the very latest singles.

In a small show on board The Thekla in March this year, Mike along with Mark Franks, Darren Everest, Timmy Matley and Lachie Chapman, wowed the intimate gathering with their renditions of Cee Lo Green’s Forget You, Adele’s Rolling in the Deep and Rihanna’s Only Girl in the World as well as providing a glimpse of their motown inspiration with covers from that era and their own composition Gambling Man.

But they have not shown the world all they have to offer, with Mike promising their upcoming show at the Colston Hall in Bristol on Sunday, October 16, is one not to miss.

"We want to put a bit more of a show on," he says. "Nobody is going to be sitting down – we won’t let them.

"We know there are some single tickets still left and we don’t want that to deter people. We won’t let it be anything other than a great night for anybody there."

He says playing such an iconic venue in his hometown is going to be very special.

"It is going to be amazing. I have 48 friends and family coming on a bus to watch and I just can’t wait."

Of the past year, Mike says it has been ‘crazy’.

"It is so exciting," he says. "We are so ridiculously busy but we are learning so much about the industry.

"When we announced the tour we weren’t really sure how it was going to go but it has almost sold out and we are so glad audiences are responding to what we are doing. The fact that the album has gone platinum is just mind-boggling."

The last remaining tickets for The Overtones at Bristol’s Colston Hall on Sunday, October 16 are available direct from the venue by calling 0117 922 3686.
