Two sports centres are set for a multi-million pound facelift.
The Prince Regent and Withdean sports complexes in Brighton are both due to be extended in schemes described as costing "a couple of million pounds".
The Brighton and Hove City Council-owned gyms have been run by Freedom Leisure since April and the trust is now keen to improve cramped conditions.
The Withdean is also set for a new £500,000 running track in its role as home of athletics in the city.
Plans to extend the gym and add a new reception area to the complex are set to be presented to the council’s cabinet in October. Details of the Prince Regent extension will also be revealed at that meeting.
The council is likely to borrow the money on behalf of Freedom Leisure, a not for profit trust which also runs the King Alfred Centre, Moulsecoomb Community Leisure Centre, Stanley Deason Leisure Centre and St Luke’s Swimming Pool.
