This picture was produced a century ago to show where King Edward VII, who had recently died, liked to sit on Hove seafront.
But it is more interesting today for the excellent view of the old Princes Hotel in Grand Avenue...
Designed in Italianate style on the lines of Osborne House in the Isle of Wight, it was taken over by Seeboard when electricity was nationalised in 1948. These days it is the headquarters of Brighton and Hove City Council.
The building has a large, modern extension on the Grand Avenue frontage but otherwise looks much the same as in this picture. Buggies have replaced the prams on the prom.
