A jury has been sworn in ahead of the trial of a woman accused of murdering her two young children.

The bodies of three-year-old Harry and two-year-old Elise Donnison were found zipped up in two separate holdalls in the boot of a Nissan car near their former family home in Heathfield.

Results from post-mortem examinations showed they probably died from asphyxiation and appeared to have been dead for less than 24 hours when they were found.

Their mother, Fiona Donnison, 44, formerly of Marshwood Road, Lightwater, Surrey, is accused of murdering them between January 25 and 28 last year.

She denies both charges.

The trial was adjourned until later when prosecutor Christine Laing QC is expected to open the case after the seven-man, five-woman jury was sworn in at Lewes Crown Court.

It is expected to last up to five weeks.
