People with a disability, physical or mental impairment or long-term health conditions are wanted to take part in a research project.

People aged 18 to 65 will be asked about the provision of public services in Brighton and Hove.

Count Ability is being run by the Brighton and Hove Federation of Disabled People and the University of Brighton. Dr Jon Hastie, a disabled academic who is running the project, stressed the importance of people getting involved.

He said: “In the current climate of financial cutbacks and service changes it is more important than ever that we communicate how services can change people’s lives for the better and to understand how limited funding can be used most effectively. To do this we need people to tell us what is important to them and what challenges they face in their lives.

“If people do not speak up now, there is a danger that service providers will make decisions that fail to account for people’s needs.”

The research team will be conducting face-to-face interviews this month and in August. The research will be confidential and anonymous.
