The British summer means only one thing: festival season. And for the conscientious festival-goer there are plenty of parties that are low energy, low waste and maximum fun.
Limetree Festival (August 26-28, North Yorkshire, www.limetree festival.co.uk) is aiming to be the world’s first plastic-free festival, as well as practising a strict zero-landfill policy. To avoid the 20,000 plastic water bottles that would otherwise be used, the festival will have a free water tent complete with lemon and lime garnishes and reusable bottles.
Green Gathering (July 28-31, West Berkshire. www.green gathering2011.com) combines traditional festival fun with showcasing future technologies and alternative lifestyles.
Croissant Neuf Summer Party (August 12-14, secret location, Wales. www.partyneuf.co.uk) has won the Green Festival Award for the past two years for their policy on powering even their biggest stage with solar and wind, recycling, tree planting and local food sourcing.
