I RECENTLY heard a Seagulls fan with the song Let’s Go Down To Brighton as his mobile phone ringtone. How about this as an alternative tune for brass bands to play at the new Amex stadium?

The Brighton Congress Band ran an early arrangement of “Brighton” at a band practice in 2009, with nice comments from two members.

Seagulls fans come from all over, and Sussex By The Sea is traditional, but it would be good to have a specific tune; a contender could be Riot By The Sea.

This originated from Will Geffin’s 2001 Brighton Festival play Ghosts Of The West Pier. Another local band, LGB Brass, has played this tune and I have a full recording of it from a student’s degree project.

Should any brass band or the club’s music team like more information, they can call me on 01273 509552.

IT WOULD be wonderful to see and hear a brass band playing Sussex By The Sea at the American Express Community Stadium – especially for the first match.

After travelling to many grounds over the country, we have always found that a team’s traditional tune or song sounds fantastic and is so much more uplifting than a modern tune, which in most cases has no connection whatsoever with the team or area.

Brass bands always bring a tear to the eye anyway. And when they are playing Sussex by the Sea – well, what a wonderful feeling and I am sure it would mean so much to many Albion supporters.

Yes, bring on the brass bands!
