Since my Marathon blog post, my life has been returning to normal – no more getting up at the crack of dawn to run and evenings where I can choose to go to the pub for a pint or two. I was even able to enjoy some of the Brighton Festival.
But just as I was about to hang up my running kit, the folks at SportsShoes got in touch and sent me some free running kit – thanks guys!
This has pushed me more into thinking should get back out there. Progress has been VERY slow –I didn’t realise how much damage the day did to my knees, but one recent run up the downs has taught me to keep it slow and steady unless I want permanent damage!
So whilst I am too injured to run, I have to admit, I am starting to miss it so I have been looking at what events are around. It is hard to beat the buzz of a Marathon so I am looking for events with a twist. One I have stumbled upon that I am quite curious of is the British Heart foundation’s midnight half marathon which they are holding as part of the white night festival. The bad part is that you have to run a half marathon…at midnight… through dark woods (Possibly on the same night as the crazy zombie walk though Brighton - if so I will definitely be running faster than normal!) The good news is that as the clocks go back at 2am that night you should beat your PB by an hour! The race is on Saturday 29th October and you register at 10.30pm at the seafront paddling pool.
If you want something sooner and fancy a bit of team work, on Wednesday 29 June there is a run called The Weakest Link. If you can pull together a team of four, this race involves every member running a leg of 2.5km before the whole team running the final length together. It starts at 7.15pm start next to Brighton Marina and costs £5 per team and you don’t need to ender until the night.
Let’s see if my knees can handle 5k by then end of the month…
