Coach Mark Robinson believes Sussex have the bowling attack to regain the Twenty20 Cup after signing Pakistan pace bowler Umar Gul.

The 27-year-old has agreed to join the Sharks for the beginning of the Friends Life t20 campaign next month.

He joins Rana Naved and Wayne Parnell as Sussex’s overseas players for the competition and Robinson is confident it will give the Sharks the firepower they need to repeat their success in 2009.

Robinson said: “We’re delighted that Umar has agreed to join us. The prospect of having two of the world’s best t20 bowlers in Rana Naved and Umar, bowling in tandem, is a mouthwatering one.”

Gul made his Pakistan debut in a one-day international as an 18-year-old and has gone on to establish himself as one of the best limited overs bowlers in the world.

He finished as the leading wicket taker in both the 2007 and 2009 T20 World Championships and is the second highest wicket taker in T20 internationals behind Shahid Afridi.

Gul was also the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in a T20 international when he claimed 5-6 against New Zealand in the 2009 World Championships as Pakistan went on to lift the trophy at Lord's.

As well as making 34 appearances in T20 internationals he has played in 88 one-day internationals and 34 Tests, taking more than 200 wickets in all formats of the game.

Gul said. “I am delighted to be joining Sussex. I am really looking forward to helping the Sharks return to both finals day and the Champions League.
