Shoppers at London Road’s Co-op store were able to listen to live coverage of the Royal wedding this morning.
The Co-operative Group provided live national broadcast coverage on in-store radio at all of its stores nationwide, thanks to a special live link up with IRN News, in partnership with Sky News.
There were mixed reactions to the shop-wide tannoy. Shop worker Becky called the experience “surreal”, saying “as I work here it’s quite nice because otherwise I would have missed out on it.”
Shopper Amy and her son thought it was “cool” to be able to hear the proceedings whilst also doing the weekly shop and another customer, Mrs Reeves, stated: “I’m actually rushing home to watch it now.”
Not all shoppers were overwhelmed with excitement. Insurance Broker Ian felt rather different.
He said: “I just block it out. The day off is good but I can’t be done with the rest of it”
Mrs Evis, a former cleaner, was equally underwhelmed. She said: “They make too much fuss. My daughter is getting married and we’re not making a fuss about it."
Sean Toal, commercial director at The Co-operative Food, said: “We don’t want our customers to miss out on any of this historic event, if they need to pop to their local Co-operative store for supplies.”
