The people of Upper Preston Village (if you believe all these estate agents) are embracing the current feel good factor the forthcoming royal wedding is creating in towns and cities throughout the UK.
Yes my street, just of The Drove, the steepest hill in Brighton , whatever the residents of Southover Street might think, is this Friday having a good old fashioned street party.
The last time I went to a street party was back in 1981 up in Hangleton, and yes you've guessed it to celebrate the all too brief marriage of Charles and Diana.
This Friday, so we are told, we can look forward to fancy dress, a knobbly knees competition, many many games and competitions for the kiddies and I am sure at least one of the ladies in the street will turn up as Britania, 'when Briiiitaiin firrsssst at heavans command' etc etc.
Events such as this are rare and I can see the afternoon, weather permitting being really good fun.
It’s not often, and especially not in Brighton and Hove sadly, that you get to spend quality time with your neighbours and are able to enjoy conversation and general conviviality with those you spend 365 days a year, living in very close proximity to.
So many thanks to Clare ,Judi, Amanda and various street helpers for taking time to get this off the ground. And to William and Kate, try and make a go of it, eh.
24 hours later we bid a fond farewell to The Withdean Stadium which has served the Albion extremely well as a temporary home for the last 12 years! Three Championships and a play final win in just a dozen years is exceptional.
Perhaps now The Withers can return to Athletics and you never know might produce a gold medalist in the 2016 or even 2020 Olympics.
Many thanks to The Withdean and Westdene residents, who have so patient and tolerant over the years. They have been really cool catts!
