Sensational, outstanding, brilliant,a fantastic group of players, we will win this league. Those are the comments Nigel Adkins has made about Southampton so far this season. This is the Southampton who are currently just 16 points behind the Albion in League 1, not forgetting of course their game in hand.
On Saturday ,St Georges Day no less , those Albion fans lucky enough to have a ticket will hopefully witness the Saints march out first, form two parrallel lines and applaud the League 1 Champions and best team by far, Brighton & Hove Albion on to the pitch. If they don't, it will be unsporting behaviour of some magnitude.
Poor old Nigel, like the British Rail man who said 'wrong type of snow or the Assistant Bosun who 99 years ago last week claimed ' it's just a scratch' the Saints boss must now cringe at when being asked if the title was between his club and the Albion , replied 'well if they can keep up with us of course'!
Oh how Albion fans have laughed.
Saturday's game is pretty much Southampton's Cup Final. 2003 at the Millenium pales into insignificance.
This with out doubt is the Saints biggest game since 1976, I wonder if Mick Channon will run on the pitch twirling his arm if they score?
Talking of running on the pitch I hope we don't get any pitch invasions at The Withdean , the sight of overweight, balding men in their forties (no I didn't run on)stumbling around the pitch, is rather pitiful, especially when they stand around shaking each others hands and nodding in a 'well done us 'type way , as if they were Gus Poyet himself .
The field of play is for athletic footballers not wheezing , wannabes in mis-managed trousers.
This season the Albion have exceeded all expectations they have been quite superb.
Football like politics and music, is all about now, not then.
