Longfellow is not the only creative artist that has found amazement in the infinite meadows of forget-me-nots, the beautiful gift for lazy gardeners flowering prolifically from every crevice and crack where its seed has sown itself.
It is a symbol of resilience, renewal and regeneration.
Last Saturday, April 9th, I enjoyed a concert in London at the Union Chapel in Islington, that was built more as a theatre in the round with galleries for perfect viewing and acoustics. The chapel is a church in the community and there we heard Eddi Reader sing with her perfect, magical voice. One of her numbers was based on the poem Forget me Not
Forget me not
When I am gone.
My memories in stone.
When day is done
And you are all alone
Forget me not
For good times shared.
The nights we were but one
Forget me not.
With each rising moon
And the setting of the sun
Forget me not.
As you grow old
The days, they just seem longer.
Remember with each passing moment
My love for thee is stronger.
This Spring's Forget-me-nots will follow the circle of life, have good times that are shared, go to seed when days are longer and be remembered next spring more strongly than ever.
What poetry….,what a flower…, like Eddi Reader's song,.......it has to be perfect.
