UPDATE: A man has died after his car plunged 300ft over cliffs in East Sussex.
The man's Ford Mondeo estate car went over cliffs at the Badgers Watch area of South Coast Road, Telscombe Cliffs, at 3.50pm today.
A Sussex Police spomesman tonight confirmed the man had died.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police were called to the Badgers Watch area on South Coast Road, Telscombe Cliffs, at 3.50pm today after a report that a Ford Mondeo estate car had driven off the cliff there and fallen some distance.
“There appears to be one adult male occupant. Police, fire and rescue and Solent Coastguard helicopter are at the scene arranging for the vehicle to be searched and recovered.
“At this stage no other vehicle or person is believed to be involved.”
A Solent Coastguard spokeswoman said: “We were called at 4.01pm by South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).
“They reported a car had gone over cliffs and wanted our assistance.
“The car was upside down in a rock pool. A search indicated a person was in the car. At this point we do not know the extent of his injuries.
“Our helicopter is still overhead and we are still at the scene.”
Traffic has backed up along the road with the A259 currently closed between Peacehaven and Saltdean.
