Brighton is a vibrant, multi-talented, multi-cultural city. With this backdrop, it makes the perfect place to source ideas from its citizens across a variety of categories which is exactly what the Sussex Innovation Centre is doing with www.makebrightonrock.com with cash prizes to the top three overall winners.

Judges include Sussex Police, EDF Energy, Brighton & Hove Council, the NHS, a high school's Head Teacher, an actor, a student, an innovation executive, and the North Laine Traders. Together, they will be presented with the top 30 ideas as voted by citizens. As of today, there are 90 ideas already with well over 100 comments and over 200 votes. The winners will be announced on Friday, February 18 at 2pm on Juice FM.

The competition has been made possible through INTERREG funding and the IVC programme in partnership with the Sussex Innovation Centre. The project (www.cliqproject.eu) involves 17 partners in 11 countries across Europe. The Sussex Innovation Centre is the sole UK partner and the aim of the project overall is to understand and encourage the role of citizens in the innovation process. We are hoping that as many ideas as possible become reality in Brighton and Hove. So if you want to see North Street pedestrianised with trams cruising its length, get on the site and get voting. If not, then vote for other ideas or submit your own.

Good luck to everyone who has entered already and thanks for your excellent comments too which will help the judges assess the benefits. For example, those from other countries have offered all sorts of instances of ideas working to a greater or lesser effect in their countries of origin. Competition closes February 14.
