A recent correspondent wrote, as he says, "half in jest", regarding overhanging shrubs and small tree branches which jump out as one walks past and strike one across the face without provocation.
Walking the streets is a dangerous occupation (selling scratch cards, I hasten to add), especially in the dusk!
Serious injury is often only narrowly avoided. "Half in jest" is only half the story.
