Tesco is planning to bring its ninth store to Worthing.

The supermarket giant has submitted a planning application to transform the former Caffyns car showroom in Goring Road.

The move, which is likely to create 20 jobs, would mean the town had the same number of Tesco stores as Brighton and Hove.

Ward councillors have raised concerns over the effect another Tesco would have on smaller independent businesses.

But a Tesco spokesman said the opening of a new store often attract new customers to an area.

A decision on the application is likely by the end of January.
