A leisure centre that has faced an uncertain future for years is to be handed over to a not-for-profit organisation, as part of a major shake-up of leisure facilities.

Brighton and Hove City Council has signed a ten-year deal with Freedom Leisure.

Among the sites it will run is the King Alfred Leisure Centre in Hove.

No figure for the deal, which covers the leisure centres’ leases, has yet been confirmed.

The council maintains the deal will mean the centre will receive the funding it needs.

However, unions and opposition politicians say the move will affect staff and hit the area’s regeneration.
