A park conservation group has donated £50 to the estimated £65,000 cost of challenging the Falmer stadium plan in the High Court.
The Friends of Stanmer Park, Brighton, is concerned at plans to build roads associated with the £50 million Brighton and Hove Albion development on green space.
A spokeswoman said: "In making this modest contribution to the appeal, the Friends wish to highlight their concern at the adverse effects they believe the stadium proposals will have on the general day-today well-being and use of the park.
"From drawings submitted, it is believed the proposals will create an unacceptable incursion into the park.
"It will take land from between the Lower Lodges and Sussex University sports hall, which will require the removal of much of the present tree screen from the A27, to create a new two lane highway, thereby increasing general traffic."
Lewes District Council, Falmer Parish Council and the South Downs Society are jointly challenging the stadium planning permission in the High Court. A hearing is scheduled for December.
