Brighton Council quickly saw the value of publicity when the town became a popular resort and the council had a series of pictures it gave or loaned to journalists.
A copy of the brochure produced by the council more than 90 years ago has been sent to me by Mary Klein of Worcestershire who used to visit the resort when she was a child.
This picture was taken outside the Metropole Hotel and on the left are the kiosks marking the start of the West Pier.
Hundreds of people are walking along the prom and there is also a fair sprinkling of early motor transport.
In his publicity blurb, Royal Pavilion director Henry Roberts (there was no publicity director) says: "Brighton stands unrivalled as the Queen of Watering Places".
- Send your pictures, along with a note about where they were taken, to Adam Trimingham, The Argus, 9 Dyke Road, Brighton BN1 3FE.
