This fine picture of a girls' school in Brighton is more than 100 years old and is a real period piece.
A notice held by two girls in the front explains that they are in a class at York Place School, which for many years was almost opposite St Peter's Church.
They are probably looking so solemn because they were told to sit still for the painstaking work of the photographer.
It does not look as if there was a uniform but they are all wearing long dresses and look demure.
This picture was sent in by Mrs Mary Klein of Worcestershire, an occasional visitor to Brighton, who found it in a collection of mementoes.
Both her mother and aunt went to the school so they are probably somewhere in this picture.
