Cancer-stricken Neil Cooper has been getting out and about as he prepares for another scan to find out if pioneering chemotherapy is slowing its spread.

Mr Cooper, from Portslade, enjoyed a meal at Donatello's in Brighton with family, friends and supporters on Monday evening.

The restaurant donated the cost of the meal.

The results of Mr Cooper's first scan in June showed the treatment was having an effect and reducing the size of tumours on his lungs and adrenal glands.

He has been continuing with the chemotherapy and will have another scan this week to see what progress has been made.

The family have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by friends, colleagues, family, friends and complete strangers across Sussex who have contributed more than £65,000 raised for the Neil Cooper Appeal so far.

It means Mr Cooper and his family can concentrate on his health instead of worrying about how to pay for the £10,000 cost of each course of chemotherapy.

Mr Cooper, 33, was given only two months to live in January but with the experimental treatment he has had so far he has been able to spend more precious time with his wife Wendy, 32, and eight-month-old daughter Caitlin.

One of the many fund-raising events for the appeal is the Passing It On five-a-side league, sponsored by Manta Finance.

It was set up by Dan Tester and Jim McDonald to raise funds to buy a minibus for the children of St Mark's School in Whitehawk and the Neil Cooper Appeal.

Companies were asked to sponsor each goal scored during the seven-week tournament.

It was won by a team from Infinity Foods and raised about £5,000 although donations can still be made. For more details, visit .
