Regarding the article on pub closures (The Argus, September 10), long ago, a popular thing was the pub crawl.

You could do the Lewes Road or London Road, but you could never complete the station to seafront. These are the pubs I remember on that route, most long gone: Starting at the Queen’s Head, next was Tommy Farr’s Royal Standard with a pub almost next door whose name I can’t recall. Then came the Feathers. Across the road at the top of Gloucester Road was the Nelson, only a beer house. Next was the popular Imperial Hotel with its music and dance floor. Down the road to the top of Church Street was the Windsor Castle.

Then came Moretons, an Edlin House with Swiss restaurant. Next was the historic Quadrant, recently saved from imminent demolition.

Across to The Galleon under the Regent. Queen’s Road’s last pub was The Lion, near the top of North Street. Into West Street and, first, the Eight Bells, then the Carpenter’s Arms, another Edlin House. Below that on the corner of Boyces Street, the Half Moon. Next was Sherry’s Bar and then the infamous Chatfields.

Cross the road to the ice rink with its two bars, the American Bar and the Long Bar, where Tommy Farr’s son performed. Last in West Street was the George Hotel and, to finish, on the front was the Pelican. Have I missed one?
