A DEDICATED lollipop man has been hired to help school children cross a road near a building site.
Developers building the new American Express office in Brighton have been told to pay for the council trained traffic marshal to help pupils from Carlton Hill Primary School get safely to class.
Brighton and Hove City Council’s road safety team told site contractor McAlpine to appoint a temporary marshal on Carlton Hill to ensure children’s safety during the construction phase of the AMEX development.
Jon Wright, who has been trained by the council’s school crossing patrol co-ordinator and had a CRB check has been appointed for the post.
He will work from 8am to 10am then from 2.30pm to 4.30pm on weekdays.
McAlpine will pay his wages and has been working with the school as there are plans to move the school’s playground and design a new entrance.
There are also plans to develop safer crossing points at the junctions of Sussex Street and John Street, and Carlton Hill and John Street, as part of the works
