Is there a performer who made you think, “I want to do that?”
Of recent times, Beyonce – her work ethic and talent continue to astound me. And, when I was a youngster, Elton John.
Do you remember the first record you bought? What was it and where did you buy it?
I can’t remember where, it could have been in Chicago or New York. I also don’t remember my first record because I bought so many close together, but it was probably a Celine Dion, Janet Jackson or Mariah Carey album.
Tell us about any guilty pleasures lurking in your CD or film collections – something you know is a bit naff but you can’t help yourself.
I don’t think I have anything naff. I suppose someone else might think something I have is naff. I think my cool might be another person’s naff! There is nothing I have that I wouldn’t feel OK to tell someone about.
Do you have a favourite film?
Pretty Woman. I loved the comedy and the ending – a perfect little fairytale for me.
Is there a TV programme you couldn’t live without?
Not really. I like a lot of TV shows but I don’t have a “can’t live without” one.
Is there a song or individual piece of music you always come back to?
Other than my own songs, which I am very lucky to be able to continue to sing, I don’t really have one particular song that I favour.
What are you reading at the moment?
I hope to be able to get into reading one of these days, because I don’t currently read a lot. I envy people who always have a book they are reading. Unfortunately, reading tends to make me sleepy, which is a big bummer! But I have hope.
Is there a live music or theatre experience that stays in your memory?
The musical Nine, which my mom was doing [Anastacia’s mother was a Broadway actress, while her father was a club singer]. She played the lead character’s wife, which moved me deeply because it was the first time I had seen my mom on stage and I was old enough to see her talent, so when she cried on stage I cried also. It’s still a very strong emotional memory for me.
Are you looking forward to Here Come The Girls?
I can’t wait to get into rehearsals for the Here Come The Girls performances. The sisterhood is back – part two!
