The planned improvements to the play area at Wolseley Road in Coldean have been put on hold until further notice as a result of the Government spending review.
The park and playground was to be developed by Land Use Consultants (LUC), with a funding budget of £50,000, as part of Brighton & Hove Councils Playbuilder Scheme. The designer had already produced an initial drawing and work on the area was due to start later this year.
Ten other parks across the city have also been affected by the cancellation of the project, while work on 11 others have already been completed.
The council has assured residents that it is ‘committed to providing high quality playspaces for children’ and that they will be ‘exploring all options available’. Local action group, Friends of Coldean Parks, are determined to see that this promise is upheld, as they have been campaigning for much needed improvements to the area since 2007.
