Countryside campaigners are calling for more of the Ouse valley and land around Ringmer to be included in the proposed South Downs national park.
Members of the South Downs Campaign will put the case at the long-running public inquiry into the park plans this week.
Campaign vice-chairman Paul Millmore said including the land would provide greater protection to the countryside, which was under intense pressure from development.
He said: "These important areas of our countryside are stunningly beautiful. They are an intrinsic part of this high-quality landscape, important in forming a very attractive setting to the chalk downland and town of Lewes."
The campaign's proposed boundary change would include all the tidal sections of the River Ouse and historic Ringmer Park.
