Here is one way to beat the credit munch.
Wacky collector Dave Valentine’s hoard of 1980s crisp bags is surely worth a pretty packet – but he refuses to sell them at any price. For now at least.
Single Dave, 32, started his bizarre collection in 1983 aged five and now has 250 packets of retro crisp bags, including old favourites like Monster Munch, Ringos, Golden Wonder and Squares.
While his friends were all collecting Panini football sticker albums in the school playground, Dave was accumulating a much more thrifty collection.
But it is now worth several thousand pounds.
Such is his fascination with retro snacks that Dave, of Wickham Avenue, Bexhill, has set up a Facebook fan club and has more than 2,500 members across the world.
His collection is so vast and rare that museums have been in touch wanting to exhibit his colourful array of packets.
