Police have said they will clamp down on any unauthorised or illegal event which is organised on Pride weekend.

Chief Inspector Laurence Taylor, who is in charge of neighbourhood policing in Brighton and Hove, said officers would stop any unlawful outdoor events, including those on the beach, taking place between Friday August 6 and Sunday August 8, which are likely to cause a nuisance.

He said: “In previous years, there have been unauthorised events which have disturbed and annoyed local residents and we owe it to them to do all that we can to ensure that they can also have an enjoyable weekend.

“Many successful events are organised in the city and they are planned to ensure that those attending have fun, confident that everything has been done to ensure their safety.

“Unauthorised events do not come with these assurances and we will seek to use the resources in place and the relevant powers during Pride weekend to keep people safe.

“If we can get early notification we have a far better chance of preventing raves from starting. We need residents and land owners to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.

“The policing response this year has included resources to deal to such events. Police will look to prosecute any one involved.”

Sussex Police have asked people to report any information that an illegal rave is to take place, sightings of lorries or large numbers of vehicles gathering on the beach, in woodlands, parks or rural car parks, sightings of fliers advertising raves and broken padlocks on access gates, to areas where a rave may take place.

Anyone with information should call Sussex Police on 0845 6070999.
