The Hangleton and Knoll Festival has continued with a range of events for the local community.
After the success of last year’s Kids Disco, the team at Fun 4 Kids club for 5-11 year olds threw another again this year, which was very popular. The disco was provided by Ace Leisure, a local business who support the festival in a variety of ways, and the mix of games and dance was a hit with the children. I was sadly unable to attend the event due to illness, but my 5 and 6 year olds returned with very positive feedback!
17 year old Anastacia Shears, until recently the youngest member of the committee, summed up her thoughts on the event in three words... "It was greeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!"
On Saturday the 29th of May was a new event in the festival calendar…A Ceilidh (Or Scottish country dancing to those of us south of the border!) Local musician Alan Mars led the dancing and provided a wonderful harp solo in a break in the dances, and with a ‘bring your own alcohol’ policy and jacket potatoes for sale, it was a fun, informal event, with a real community feel!
Comments from the members of the public who attended were very positive “Great evening – friendly, fun”
“Wonderful. Like living in a real place – Not Brighton”
“Fab evening, Alan explained it all really well…. Great Jacket Potatoes too!”
Festival Committee member, Sharon McLenahan,a new addition to the festival team, dropped in at the deep end joining practically on the eve of the festival told me "I wasn't sure what I was letting myself in for as I'd never even heard of Ceilidh before - Turns out it is traditional Scottish dancing. Haven't had so much fun in ages - People were great, food was great and after all these years I now actually know the words to 'Auld Lang Syne'
The Festival Committee are already considering another similar event in the future!
