A nightclub could be closed permanently after violence broke out within days of it reopening.

The Pier has been accused by senior Sussex Police officers of having a “flagrant disregard” for the law after attacks repeatedly happened in and around the Worthing venue.

The club's licence was suspended for two weeks in February by Worthing Borough Council after complaints from Sussex Police about the behaviour of staff.

Bosses were forced to change the security team and supervisor at the club based in the Southern Pavilion on Worthing Pier.

But on March 28, within days of the club reopening, a drunken woman attacked a man with a 4-inch stiletto shoe causing what police described as “significant injuries” to his head.

On the same night, club staff are said to have refused to call the police after a man was punched repeatedly in the face on the club's dancefloor - instead telling the victim to walk to the taxi rank and report the incident to officers there.

Three days later a mass brawl involving 14 teenagers broke out in the town centre which needed seven police units to bring under control.

The main offender at the incident was a 17-year-old who had been sold drink at an event for Worthing Sixth Form College students held at The Pier.

The council's licensing committee will meet on June 8 to decide whether to revoke the club's licence.
