Mark McGhee today backed his latest Albion signing to make a big impression.
But playmaker Tony Stokes has been warned he faces a battle to make the team which faces Rotherham on Saturday.
Stokes, a 19-year-old trainee at Upton Park, will complete an initial one-month loan move today. He has previous first team experience at Rushden and Diamonds.
McGhee is delighted to pick up a player who is highly rated by the Hammers.
The Albion boss said: "He's a good young player and they have high hopes for him.
"He's a footballer. He'll get on the ball and make things happen. The reviews that have come out of Rushden have been excellent.
"Whether he'll play on Saturday we'll have to wait and see but certainly we would expect him to play his way into the team quickly."
Stokes played for West Ham in a Carling Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday in 2005 and made 19 appearances for Rushden earlier this year, earning rave reviews for his attacking displays.
McGhee signed Keith Lowe on loan from Wolves this week and still wants to add another defender and a target man, preferably by the time his team set out for South Yorkshire.
He said: "We've put some feelers out today and we're waiting for some answers. One or two have fallen by the wayside, but we'll keep persevering."
French leftback Zoumana Bakayoko, who was on trial at Albion recently, has secured a two-year deal at their League One rivals Millwall.
Meanwhile, Adam Hinshelwood has been told he faces another two months on the sidelines.
A scan showed he has damaged cartilage in his knee but that ligaments remain intact.
Albion had feared a longer lay-off for their young defender.
