If Worthing Hospital A&E closes, there can be no doubt the frailer people of Worthing will die on the way to Chichester or Brighton.
Anyone who has had to struggle through the traffic on these routes can have no doubt about this.
And are outpatients on crutches with, say, a leg in plaster, supposed to travel to fracture clinic appointments from Lancing and Worthing to Chichester or Brighton by bus and train?
The difficulty and time involved would make this impossible, quite apart from the cost.
What a huge burden will be placed on the ambulance service, as well.
Anyone who would take the injured or sick to A&E in Worthing will not risk delays and traffic, they will just dial 999 and go by ambulance.
Have we forgotten 60-odd years ago when we fought a war against a man who treated the sick and vulnerable of his society like this?
-Wendy Taylor, Lancing
