Walkers can finally enjoy a seafront stroll after an undercliff walk was reopened after five years.
Brighton and Hove City Council yesterday announced the walk from Black Rock in Brighton to Saltdean was again open to the public.
It had been closed for safety reasons after severe cliff falls on a section behind Brighton Marina's Asda store in 2001.
A risk assessment was recently carried out after the cliff face was stabilised.
The assessment showed any safety risks were now comparable to those on the promenade at Sandown, Isle of Wight, also open to the public.
Gill Mitchell, chairman of the council's environment committee, said rain and frost can affect the stability of the cliffs and a monitoring programme is being set up with the University of Brighton.
