Neighbours living near a blind bend which repeatedly floods believe it is only a matter of time before someone is killed.
Pat Rutherford and Elsa Quirke live on the B2028 Buxshalls Hill, between Ardingly and Lindfield, and have been directing traffic around the flooding for years.
The road is at the bottom of a hill and when it rains the water overwhelms the drains.
They have complained to the Highways Agency but say nothing has been done.
Ms Rutherford said: "We have to flag them down otherwise we would be picking up the bits after they crashed as we are the only people who live along this stretch of road.
"I have had two cars come through to my bed and breakfast and one woman landed on top of my stables and killed my chickens.
"The farmer next door has had someone come through his hedge and at Buxshall Lodge they have ended up in the garden.
"We are getting quite desperate. Someone should sit outside my house and listen when the cars are slamming their brakes on."
