With regard to Shoreham Airport's role in aviation history (The Argus, July 22), I worked there in the Fifties, initially building sub-assemblies for Rolls-Royce Aeronautics then, later, on two turboprop Marathon aircraft, which were bought from the RAF for conversion for civilian use.
The work was carried out in a large hangar at the edge of the airfield close to the terminal building and near the perimeter road.
Also in the hangar was a single engine jet aircraft called the Student which was being marketed as a jet trainer around the world.
We were often asked to push it on to the apron in front of the terminal in preparation for a demonstration.
I often wonder whatever happened to those aircraft.
