The resistance to Frank Gehry's design for the King Alfred development is an example of how the needs of the city are being challenged by the wants of some people.

Now Brighton and Hove is a city, it must develop as such. investment in the city is vital, not only for the city of Brighton and Hove itself but for nearby Sussex towns.

Sussex is fast becoming a dormitory county, with many people commuting to London or Surrey to work. This is killing the communities.

The King Alfred development, along with the community stadium near Falmer and many other forward-thinking projects, are the only way we can prevent Sussex towns and villages from becoming merely London hotels.

Investment in the community leads to investment in infrastructure, rail and road networks, which in turn makes the place more attractive to businesses.
