Best known for his work with Orbital, Phil Hartnoll's new project is Long Range.

It was formed in conjunction with Nick Smith, an artist whose recording career for dance labels has led to ads for Nike and Lexus and film credits with Ridley Scott.

The pair launch their live show at the Big Chill on August 5, where they will be joined by Propellerheads drummer Will White. If you haven't got a ticket, you can enjoy this more intimate warm-up.

Long Range's sound harks back to the ambient genius that was Orbital, while transporting the listener into a more acoustic, atmospheric and cinematic realm.

From blissed-out moments to jarred and broken beats, their eponymous album references many genres, and features vocalists and musicians the pair have met along the way.

While adding the finishing touches to the LP, Long Range remixed a single for Brighton band Clearlake, as well as the Upper Room.

Long Range last played Brighton during the art festival in May, when they joined forces with Chuck Palahnuik (Fight Club) and Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting) for a one-off music, word and image collaboration, which saw the writers and DJs jamming back and forth. The Corn Exchange gig made headlines as the immense sound and lighting caused 12 people to faint.
