Nick Nurse last night told Genesis Brighton Bears' season ticket holders: "There is a possibility we will not play this season."

At a 45-minute meeting at The Triangle, the head coach and chief driving force behind the club faced the supporters who have stumped up cash in advance to watch the Bears in the British Basketball League.

The Argus revealed on Tuesday that the club could 'park' their franchise for a year.

Nurse said last night: "I told them (season ticket holders) there is a possibility we will not play this season. That we will 'park' the franchise.

There is that possibility.

"There's also a possibility we will play as well, to make myself clear.

"It in no way infers that we are going to quit the BBL. We've got 12 calendar months to let them know if we are going to come back and start playing again in their league.

"If we were quitting the league, we'd be leaving now. But we are parking in the garage for 12 months. Or it could be sooner.

"If we make an early decision to play in the BBL next year, we will tell them straight away. I told the season ticket holders that a decision will be made on what is happening with the club at a meeting on Friday.

"They were okay with it and talked through some technical things about what could happen as a result of the meeting and later on."

Nurse also touched on the issue of what will happen to the money the season ticket holders have already paid out.

He said: "We addressed some of that. There was some good feeling on that.

"We're going to address that again the early part of next week once we know what the outcome is on Friday. But we did talk about some options and they were fine about it."

Nurse has been in charge of Bears for five BBL seasons, winning the title once.
