Amanda Blanch's comments show she has no grasp of what goes on in the Hanbury Ballroom at the moment.
She says there are no venues for "over 25s and 30s" (The Argus, July 18) but as a Hanbury-going music fan who is the wrong side of 40, I would dispute this.
Her challenge to Brighton's "musos and the promoters who make their living from the Hanbury" to buy it (The Argus, July 20) is bizarre. Most of the promoters who organise shows at the Hanbury, such as the Gilded Palace of Sin, do it out of passion for the music and a desire to share their enjoyment with others.
It is laughable to suggest they, or any of the musicians, could afford to buy the Hanbury.
Instead of getting so defensive, why doesn't Ms Blanch work with the local community to keep the spirit of the place alive?
The building is undoubtedly in need of TLC, but there is no point in tarting up our domed friend if no one can see it.
Why can't the place still be used for public gigs midweek?
The community which uses the Hanbury at the moment may not be rich or well-connected enough to join her club but we're not a bad lot, really.
