Airport staff are bracing themselves for one of the busiest weekends of the year.
About 520,000 people are expected to pass through Gatwick between Friday and Monday as families take their summer holidays abroad.
Popular destinations include Malaga, Palma De Mallorca, Faro, Alicante, Dalaman and Orlando.
To help children pass the time waiting for flights, airport staff have built a story-telling area in the South Terminal called the Beanstalk.
There are also unsupervised soft play areas in both terminals.
