Taxi drivers want a fuel surcharge added to fares as pump prices soar.
The Worthing Taxi Association said the increase would only kick in after prices had exceeded a certain level.
The association wants a fixed supplement of 20p per journey when the price exceeds £1 a litre, although any rise would not be imposed this year.
Councillors meeting on Wednesday will consider the request, which cannot be granted without first consulting the public.
