Why are residents so surprised Brighton and Hove City Council wants to renege on its undertaking regarding the height of buildings at Brighton Marina?
This has all happened before. In the mid-Sixties, Brighton residents were given a town vote on whether or not the marina should be built.
The plans included a 4,000-seat ice stadium and, as the rink in West Street had recently been demolished, several thousand fans of the Brighton Tigers ice hockey team gave their backing to the marina.
Without this support, it is doubtful if the marina vote would have been in favour - but the rink was never built, nor was the indoor ski slope which was also in the plans.
The council then was Conservative but, whoever is in power, you just cannot trust politicians to do what the local people want.
