I thoroughly endorse your second leader (The Argus, July 12) calling on Brighton and Hove City Council to back Councillor Francis Tonks's petition asking Foreign Secretary, Margaret Beckett, to visit Brighton to discuss the case of Guantanamo Bay detainee Omar Deghayes, from Saltdean, as a matter of urgency.
It is obvious The Argus speaks for the vast majority of humane people in the city and beyond with respect to Mr Deghayes's continued detention without trial irrespective of their political affiliations, or the lack of them.
